Top 20 accountancy and business advisory firm, Horwath Clarke Whitehill LLP, has completed its transition from three different legacy payroll programs onto the Star Payroll Professional software.
Horwath Clark Whitehill, which already uses Star Practice Management across all of its UK offices, decided to standardise on one payroll system for several reasons. “We wanted all clients to be given the same choice of functionality and reports, irrespective of which office was serving their payroll needs,” said IT Director, Ian Norman. “We also wanted to improve on efficiency and build a platform with national resilience.”
So why not standardise on one of the systems that the firm already used? “None of our existing payroll products were wholly satisfactory and we wanted to find a system that met the needs of all of our clients, whilst at the same time offering new functionality and more cost saving measures for our payroll bureau,” he added. “Star Payroll Professional is recognised as being one of the best payroll software systems available to accountancy firms providing bureau services. The existing relationship with Star Computers was also a major benefit.”
In addition, one the first ‘clients’ on Star Professional Payroll was Horwath Clark Whitehill itself. “With over 60 partners and more than 500 staff across eight offices, our requirements were pretty demanding. Getting the Star system operational for the firm proved to us that it could cope with the needs of any of our clients. The fact that we use it ourselves is also a vote of confidence when talking with clients about our payroll services,” Ian continued.
The firm provides payroll services for around 400 clients and expects this number to grow.
Ever innovative, Horwath Clark Whitehill is not standing still. “We want to consider Star’s ePayslips which will allow staff and clients to view their payslips securely over the internet. This is not only efficient but highly cost-effective,” Ian concludes.
