Abacus in Cyprus selects Star Practice Management system

Firm plans to increase competitive edge with new levels of efficiency and management information

Abacus Ltd, the leading independent professional services firm in Cyprus, has signed a six figure agreement with Star Computers for installation of a new Practice Management system. Star will replace a bespoke Oracle based system and provide integration with Abacus’ in situ HR and finance applications.

The Star system will provide time entry and billing support for around 120 staff in Abacus’ offices in Nicosia and Limassol.  It will also assist in engagement management and staff allocation. There is also CRM functionality within the Star solution.

Star Computers’ solution was chosen after Abacus engaged Nicosia based IT consulting firm Exelsys to prepare a statement of requirements which was sent out to potential suppliers.  “The Star response was professional and comprehensive,” explains Kyriacos Fiakkas, the Managing Director of Exelsys. “A demonstration over the web confirmed that the Star Practice Management software should be shortlisted and we visited Star’s offices in the UK where we spent a day going through the system in detail and discussed with their consultants how they would implement the application within Abacus, drawing on installations in similar firms.”

“From the moment we saw the statement of requirements we knew that the Star software would be a perfect match,” says Ian Thompson, a Senior Manager at Star, “We have tremendous experience of working with professional services firms around the world.  With Abacus, the key challenges we focussed upon were a full and accurate data conversion from the firm’s legacy system and integrating Star Practice Management with their HR application which is Microsoft SQL based, as is their Microsoft Dynamics NAV finance system. Star has a ready-made NAV interface, is a Microsoft Gold Partner and a long established Dynamics NAV Solution Centre, so Star consultants are very well placed to work alongside Exelsys’ consultants to provide a total solution for Abacus.”
